The Story
Matthew grew up in Melbourne and is one of four children in the Kaye family household. From a young age he dreamed of becoming a pilot and had a passion for all things aviation.
Throughout Matthew’s high schooling in Melbourne, he met with a MAF staff member who visited his school to speak about MAF’s mission and purpose around the world. It was through this connection that Matthew realised one day he wanted to serve alongside MAF, bringing hope and light to isolated communities across the world.
After finishing high school, Matthew began to pursue an aviation career and enrolled in a Bachelor of Aviation/ Bachelor of Business (Management) at Swinburne University, Melbourne. Throughout this time, he achieved his Commercial Pilots Licence and Flight Instructors Rating.
Matthew has a passion for finding ways to combine his faith, gifts and talents to serve others. He brings experience from his involvement in youth and creative arts ministries within his Melbourne Church. In 2018 he was baptised at his home church and has recently started theological studies in Melbourne.
Living in Melbourne throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and corresponding lockdowns, enabled Matthew to slow down and reflect on how he could use his skills, talents and Pilot training to bless and serve others. Upon graduating, God’s incredible timing saw a low-hour pilot opportunity open with MAF Australia, and he jumped at the opportunity to serve within the MAF team.
Matthew looks forward to seeing more of the amazing ways God moves in working with MAF and in the Arnhem Land communities as a Missionary Pilot.
‘You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.’
Matthew 5:14-16 (HSBC)
